The first broke out around 9:20 p.m. in the kitchen of an apartment near 22nd Street and Broadway Road.

Firefighters forced their way into the unit to find heavy smoke and a man unconscious on the couch. The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The fire was contained to the kitchen.

The second blaze broke out around 10 p.m. in a trailer near Ninth Street and Indian School Road.

The female homeowner made it out safely.

The fire completely destroyed the trailer and spread to a nearby palm tree, but firefighters kept the flames from reaching neighboring homes.

Firefighters gave no word on what started either fire.
